Spotlight Application
250F-U-I 5" Spotlight-12V with ivory handle and Unity ornament
Q:
Hello I purchased a 250F-U-I for my 1958 Chevy Impala through Larson Electronics. I am replacing a unit that came on this vehicle so I'm using the original mounting brackets that are bolted to the cowling. When i insert the new shaft into the original brackets, it fits very well however the shaft is about 1-3/4" longer than the original and is in the way of the turn signal lever. The outer tube on the new unit is 17" end to end. The outer tube on the original is 15-1/16". I don't want to move the bracket because of the holes in the fender so my question is, can the inner and outer shaft be shortened to clear the turn signal lever? Please let me know. Thank you for your help. I also need a cut sheet on the unit so I can see how to make the adjustments on the unit. Kevin 484-387-8432

A:
Kevin, could you measure both spotlights using these two specific measurements:
Exposed shaft – the amount of tubing visible between the head housing and handle housing when the spotlight is assembled.
Center to center – the distance between where the gears mesh in the handle and where the gears mesh in the head when the spotlight is assembled.
Spotlight shafts cannot be shortened. Doing so would ruin electrical and mechanical function of the spotlight. You would either need to return the light to Larson for a different spotlight with the correct shaft or order a replacement shaft. We will need the two measurements above to identify the shaft lengths of both lights to direct you to the correct parts.
