This part says it is made to order, so I thought it would take a while to get to me, but it was shipped in just a few days and fit fine.

No more excessive play
I decided to finally address the slightly excessive amount of play in my retired crown vics spotlight handle. When I pulled the original wedge out I could see that it was bent, crushed some and worn out just enough. So I ordered a few new wedges to make the shipping worth it. Once I inserted a new wedge as recommended, it was like new again. Definitely glad I took care of that. And it was a lot easier to replace and insert than I thought.

Q:
Item number u-8384-p, Does this fit the new led type spot lights? Thanks you Robert patterson
Asked by:
Robert Patterson
- 7/15/2015
A:
Yes and no. This will fit some spotlights, but not others. It is not specific to LED or Halogen spotlights. This wedge should be used with a U-8385 wedge screw if you have a spotlight with a flat on the inner shaft. If your spotlight does not have a flat U-1834 wedge and U-1836 wedge screw should be used.
If you need help determining if your specific light has a flat please feel free to use the Contact Us feature of our website. We will need to know either the spotlight part number or if you don't have that information the make, model and year of the vehicle the light is installed on.

Q:
I'm wondering if # u-8384-p is available in a better material then soft type of material that doesn't hold up? The older one's appear to be plated brass material that hold up much better. If so can you give me the part#? Thank You
Asked by:
Bill
- 6/29/2016
A:
This is the only version available. They are made of die cast zinc. They are designed to be softer than the materials used to make the shaft and handle assembly so that if they are installed incorrectly they will not damage the shaft or handle housing.

Q:
Is this wedge the same as a 8384-P? This is on a 2005 Crown Vic Police Thanks
Asked by:
Matthew
- 2/17/2016
A:
Yes, they are the same part number and it is correct part for 2005 Crown Vic Police.
The "U-" in front of a number is for internal use of designating a salable version of the part number over the production part number. It normally appears on parts.

Q:
I would like to order one or two of these but the shipping charges are crazy. Can you just put two in an envelope and mail them for regular postage?
Asked by:
Matthew
- 2/17/2016
A:
Without knowing shipping destination I can't run a check to see if there are alternate shipping methods. We do have a USPS option that is normally cheaper for small parts than UPS. During checkout "Display rates" needs to be clicked to view the price.
We cannot put the parts in an envelope. We have tried that in the past and there have been too many issues that we no longer ship parts that way.
For a small part like this, going through a local distributor can be better to avoid shipping costs. We have a distributor search that can be found here: http://search.unityusa.com/distributor.php
This part is also carried at Amazon:

That does not sound like our spotlight. On the base of the head on the backside does it say Grakon 6000? If so that is not ours.

Q:
I have a unity spotlight and the intermediate shaft with notch for the wedge , the notch is not aligned correctly so the handle isn't inline with the with the spot head. ? how does the wedge bushing work with my shaft. do i have to cut the shaft. do you overhaul units like mine? /

Classic Moose
- 10/21/2016
A:
Do you know the part number of the light or did you purchase it used? If the light was used do you know what vehicle it was previously on and what side of the vehicle? What is make, model, and year of the vehicle you wish to mount the light onto? Are you mounting the light on Driver Side (LH) or Passenger Side (RH)?
Could you give us the two measurements from the light:
Exposed shaft – the amount of tubing visible between the head housing and handle housing when the spotlight is assembled.
Center to center – the distance between where the gears mesh in the handle and where the gears mesh in the head when the spotlight is assembled.

Q:
Will this work with Unity spotlights that are factory installed on Charger Police cars? Is there a price break for more than one to Police Depts. ?
Asked by:
Ken Mott
- 4/20/2017
A:
This is the correct wedge for the factory installed Charger spotlights. It should be used with a U-8385 Wedge Screw. We do not have any discount programs for Police Departments through our website. You may be able to work something out with one of our distributors.
Below is our distributor search. It uses zip codes to locate distributors near you. The less numbers of the zip code you enter, the wider the area it will search.

A:
211030-0002 spotlight would use a U-8384-P wedge and U-8385 Wedge Screw.
